It’s Nov. 3 and it was 72 degrees in Madison today. That’s 72 above zero. When I lived in North Dakota many years ago, we used to have to make that distinction.
Apparently it’s supposed to be 70 on Tuesday and 68 on Wednesday before the bottom starts to fall out. There’s a chance of snow on Friday and Saturday, and it doesn’t look like the high will reach 50 until the Brewers are playing again.
This all leads perfectly into the annual Chili Kickoff at the UW Field House prior to the Badger football game with Minnesota on Nov. 15. Nothing goes better with chilly weather than, well, chili. The Chili Kickoff, co-sponsored by the Wisconsin Alumni Association and the National W Club, is open to the public (click here for information), with doors opening at noon prior to the 2:30 p.m. kickoff that day. There’ll be chili, brats, cheese, cookies, chips, salsa, beer and soda; music; a raffle; and appearances by Bucky, the UW Spirit Squad and Marching Band, and a magician.
But back to the chili. Here’s what we’d like to do. If you have a good chili recipe, we’d love to have you send it to us by the end of the day on Wednesday, Nov. 12. We’ll post it on UWBadgers.com and share it with the world. Then, on Thursday the 13th, we’ll randomly choose the chili recipe of one Badger fan, who will receive four complimentary tickets to the Chili Kickoff and four complimentary tickets to the Wisconsin-Minnesota football game.
So, send your recipes to: email@example.com. And, if you’re in Wisconsin, enjoy the warm weather while it lasts!
