Welcome to the Gameday blog, coming to you live from courtside at the Kohl Center, as the Wisconsin men's basketball team gets set to take on Coppin State in a non-conference matchup.

The Badgers are in search of their third straight win, and ninth in a row on their home floor. I'll be back as we get closer to game time to bring you all the action.
4:52
Who will lead the Badgers in scoring tonight?
Marcus Landry
 ( 18% )
Trevon Hughes
 ( 5% )
Jason Bohannon
 ( 36% )
Joe Krabbenhoft
 ( 5% )
Jon Leuer
 ( 36% )
Someone else....
 ( 0% )

4:55
Here's some pre-game information for you as the clock ticks down under seven minutes until player introductions ... tonight's game is a sellout at 17,230 but another round of wintry weather in the Madison area may keep the crowd limited ... officials for tonight are Ted Valentine, Zelton Steed and Eric Curry
5:04
Starting lineups are in:

For Coppin State: F Brian Chesnut, C Ceslovas Kucinskas, G Michael Harper, G Tywain McKee, G Jordan Lee

For the Badgers: Landry, Nankivil, Hughes, Bohannon and Krabbenhoft
5:06
[Comment From Karie]
Who would you say is the star player from Coppin State that the Badgers should be looking out for?
5:07
Senior guard Tywain McKee is the Eagles' leader at 19.7 points per game, and also with 4.6 rebounds per game
5:07
Interesting that the Eagles start two seniors and two freshmen

5:08
Bohannon gets it going with a jumper, but Harper answers on the other end for Coppin State
5:09
The Eagles are mired in a six-game losing streak ... and this is their eighth-consecutive road game to start the season
5:09
There's a trey by McKee to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead with 17:30 to go
5:10
Marcus is good from deep ... 3-ball makes it a 7-5 lead for the Badgers
5:12
Keaton grabs a board underneath and puts it back ... Badgers have an early 4-2 rebounding edge. That's good news since the UW is 7-0 this season when out-rebounding an opponent
5:12
Media timeout at 15:22 .... Badgers lead, 9-7
5:13
[Comment From apache jct badger]
how do we compare height/speed wise
5:14
Their frontcourt of Chesnut and Kucinskas are 6-7 and 6-8, respectively ... their guards are an average height of 6-3
5:15
Leuer checks in for Keaton on the other side of the timeout
5:15
J-Bo drains a triple ... 12-7 Badgers lead
5:16
That last possession was a good display of how quick Coppin State is ... the Badgers really had to work deep into the shot clock against the Eagles' zone ... plenty of ball movement around the perimeter and an inside touch for Marcus before Trevon found J-Bo open at the top of the key
5:17
Marcus runs into a double-team road block but finds Leuer over the top ... he's tall and makes good on a short one-hander
5:18
Then the duo does it again as Marcus feeds Leuer for a dunk that looked almost like it began at the free-throw line
5:18
Jarmusz checks in for Krabby, who was just called for a travel after hauling down an offensive board
5:18
Badgers are owning the glass ... 7-2
5:19
Trevon is whistled for the Badgers' first foul ... and checks out in favor of Jordan Taylor
5:20
There's a board for Jarmusz ... Badgers have their hands on everything coming off the glass at this point
5:20
Jarmusz then finds Leuer for a bucket ... Badgers are shooting 8-for-13 from the floor (62 percent)
5:20
Media timeout at 11:24, with the Badgers owners of a 18-7 lead
5:21
[Comment From apache jct badger]
read somewhere that the new floor is in.  players said they like it.  any noticable difference to the masses?
5:22
This is my first look at the new floor, and the difference is certainly noticable ... the red in the Motion W at halfcourt and around the sidelines and endlines is much more true to the official school color
5:24
Considering the holiday break for students, the crummy weather (again!) and the traffic I encountered near the mall today (I'm a last-minute shopper, too), I have to say it's not a bad showing for the Badger faithful ... some empty seats but definitely a good turnout
5:24
Leuer makes it look easy. Again. He's tall.
5:26
Badgers take a timeout with J-Bo trapped in the corner after an in-bounds play
5:26
That's one thing Coppin State has done well so far ... collapsing on the ball quickly.   It's worked for them a couple of times, but it's also led to easy baskets for Leuer on a couple of trips, too.
5:27
22-8 lead for the Badgers affer a tip-in by Leuer
5:27
Trevon knocks down a 3-ball ... it's 25-11 Badgers
5:28
This is a 21-6 run for the Badgers
5:29
[Comment From jay]
thats more like it
5:29
Everything looks good so far ... a 12-3 lead in rebounding ... 61 percent shooting from the floor ... six guys who havce scored so far
5:29
Media timeout at 7:50
5:30
[Comment From calusadave]
The Big 10 is having a good day. It looks like an up year for the likes of MN, MSU, OSU, Purdue etc.
5:30
They are announcing those scores right now ... the crowd loves it
5:31
Some big wins all around for the league today ... gives some credence to the talk circulating that the conference will be much stronger top to bottom this year
5:31
[Comment From don swenson]
Leuer looks hot tonight
5:32
He leads all scorers with 10 points in just seven minutes

5:32
[Comment From apache jct badger]
pretty clean game foul wise
5:32
Yeah, just five between the teams
5:34
Coppin State coach Fang Mitchell is fired up on the sidelines right now
5:34
With good reason ... Eagles are on a 6-0 run
5:35
Badgers ease up on the throttle here and Trevon hits a runner in traffic with 6 seconds left on the shot clock
5:35
Along with the fouls ... each team has committed just three turnovers
5:37
It's a 16-5 lead in rebounding for the Badgers ... UW has as many offensive boards as the Eagles do in total
5:37
[Comment From apache jct badger]
i didn't do any due diligence, so can you tell me where coppin is located and what league
5:38
Coppin is not a state, just to clarify. The Eagles actually call Baltimore home and play in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
5:39
It's The Final Countdown from the UW band during this media timeout ... not to criticize the song selection, but there's 3:49 left in the first half....
5:40
Another board for the Badgers as Leuer hauls in an errant 3-ball by the Eagles ... and then converts on the other end with a lay-in. Leuer has a dozen to lead all scorers
5:41
Fang wants a timeout. Badgers lead, 31-19, with 3:00 to play.
5:42
McKee, who leads the Eagles with eight points, checks back in
5:42
And there he is again ... cuts the UW lead to 10
5:44
Krabby forces a turnover by McKee ... great defense out of a 6-7 guy on someone who's 6-2
5:45
McKee has the hot hand for the Eagles and drains another basket ... it's 31-23 Badgers with 40 seconds left
5:45
J-Bo checks back in for the final few seconds of the half
5:45
Eagles have the ball with 35.4 seconds left .... shot clock is on
5:46
Nothing for the Eagles ... UW ball with 1.8 left
5:46
Leuer checks in
5:47
The big guy gets the feed on the in-bounds play but can't connect on a trey ... it's a 31-23 lead for the Badgers at the half
5:48
[Comment From BadgerMama]
From the radio broadcast the crowd seems a little subdued, but not as much as during the Idaho State game. How does it seem from there?
5:48
The atmosphere has been pretty good thus far ... especially considering the fact that the Badgers were able to extend a comfortable lead for most of the half
5:50
An air-ball on the Culver's halftime 3-point shot promotion ... that's rough. Section 126 was in line for free custard if he could connect.
5:50
I'll be back in a few minutes to give you some halftime stats, etc.
5:50[Be Right Back Countdown]10 minutes
6:02
OK, back in the saddle after some halftime refreshment
6:03
As I've been mentioning, Badgers are owning the glass to the tune of a 18-6 lead at halftime ... Leuer leads all scorers with 12 and is one of four UW players with at least five points ... the Badgers have eight assists on their 14 made baskets ... UW shot 52 percent (14-for-27) in the first half compared to 46% shooting for the Eagles
6:04
Marucs with a great tip-in of a missed 3 by J-Bo ... athletic move under the basket to get things started for the Badgers
6:04
Jarmusz is in to replace Krabby
6:06
Something else from the halftime stats ... Badgers outscored the Eagles in the paint, 18-8
6:06
That one's from outside, though, as J-Bo drains a triple to extend the UW lead to 36-23
6:07
Two in a row for J-Bo!
6:07
He knocks down another one off a great pass from Hughes ... Badgers have matched their largest lead at 14
6:09
Media timeout at 15:55 after a foul on the Eagles ... it was beginning to look more like a rugby match underneath the basket on the past couple of trips for Coppin State
6:11
Something that really sticks out at this point is the fact that there have only been two free throws attempted to this point ... the Eagles are 1-for-2 from the stripe and the Badgers have yet to make it to the line
6:13
[Comment From apache jct badger]
is krabby playing as many minutes this year as last?
6:13
Pretty much a wash. He averaged just over 31 per game last season and has an average of 29 per game so far this season.
6:13
New look for the Badgers as Wilson, Taylor and Krabby check in
6:14
Some really unselfish play leads to a big dunk by Landry ... he, Leuer and Krabby had an awesome sequence of passes leading up to his big finish
6:15
Now it's Leuer with the throw-down. That's been a common sight tonight.
6:15
The Badgers' advantage inside is really starting to show here ... although Coppin State has been able to answer pretty much everything UW has done with their own outside shooting.
6:16
Leuer picks up his third foul on a call on the offensive end ... Kohl Center crowd less than happy about it.
6:17
Eagles get their first offensive board of the game ... Badgers have six
6:17
Another offensive foul called on the Badgers ... the whistle against Wilson takes us to a media timeout at 11:51
6:20
There's a foul on Taylor ... the Badgers suddenly have five team fouls
6:22
Krabby has done a nice job containing McKee despite the size and speed differential ... he did so again on that empty possession for the Eagles
6:23
The pace of this one has slowed down a lot ... several possessions deep into the shot clock for both teams on their past few trips
6:24
Gullikson drops in his first basket on a sweet no-look, behind-the-back pass from Landry along the baseline. That was S-M-O-O-T-H
6:24
And then Krabby splashes a deep one as the Badgers take their largest lead at 51-36
6:26
A loose ball takes out Wayne Larrivee's monitor at the Big Ten Network table courtside ... and we have a media timeout at the 7:51 mark
6:28
The rebounding dominance continues for the Badgers in the second half, with an 11-6 lead on the glass for the UW
6:28
For the game, it's 29-12
6:29
Make it 30-12 ... Leuer checks in for Gullkson
6:31
Leuer gives the Badgers their 10th offensive board by tipping in his own miss ... that's 16 points for him and a 15-point edge for the Badgers
6:33
Krabby hauls in another offensive board ... and the Badgers will have their first free throws after a media timeout with 3:38 to play!
6:37
Krabby hits both free throws. Amazing that it took nearly 37 minutes.
6:37
[Comment From apache jct badger]
is hughes scoreless
6:37
No, he has five points ... to go along with four assists and a couple of boards
6:38
McKee is down a shoe ... that's the first thing to go wrong for him tonight as he leads Coppin State with 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting
6:40
McKee, complete with two shoes, checks back in.
6:40
[Comment From Guest]
Are the Badgers being physical? Or just not getting the calls?
6:40
It's definitely been a scrum for rebounds on a few occasions ... the officials have been consistent in letting them play, though
6:41
Final seconds ticking away here ... shot clock is off
6:42
Badgers will win, 57-46, for their ninth-straight win at the Kohl Center and third overall ... that's also 20 straight wins over non-ranked teams.
6:42
A solid win for the Badgers leading into Tuesday's big-time matchup with No. 5 Texas .... and don't think the Longhorns won't be playing inspired ball after a loss to Michigan State today in Houston.
6:44
That's it for the Game Day Blog. Be sure to check back to UWBadgers.com for the most complete coverage of tonight's win by the Badgers. I'll have the Behind the Box feature, and you can also check out a live video stream of post-game comments from head coach Bo Ryan and UW players.

Thanks for following along, and Go Badgers!
