As far as holiday gifts go, I think it’s safe to say that Emily Jayne and Heidi Mielke each got one this year that they’ll remember for a long time.
Jayne and Mielke were chosen to receive a trip – mostly funded by Wisconsin head football coach Bret Bielema – to represent all UW students at the Champs Sports Bowl where the Badgers took on Florida State. They were introduced with Bielema on the floor of the Kohl Center during a timeout at a UW men’s basketball game and it was at that time that they were surprised to find out where they’d be spending their holidays. Included in the package were a round-trip flight, accommodations at the team hotel and tickets to the game and Badger Blast pre-game tailgate. Needless to say, the two seniors were thrilled.
“I’m so thankful for such a wonderful trip,” Mielke said. “Mike and I truly enjoyed ourselves. The hotel was absolutely gorgeous. The Badger Blast provided a new game experience for us, and we enjoyed our seats at the Champs Sports Bowl. We could not have asked for better weather!”
Jayne agreed, saying: “I can’t express what a thrill this whole experience has been for me. I was so excited to have even been given the opportunity to go to the basketball game to meet Bret Bielema, let alone to have been surprised with the trip to the bowl game in Orlando! It was so thoughtful and completely unexpected. As a senior, it is hard to imagine graduating on a better note than with the memories of this trip to Orlando.”
Last year Bielema sent a fan from Appleton, Wis., to the Outback Bowl in similar fashion.
