You can always tell when spring is approaching around here (tonight’s winter storm advisory notwithstanding).
One of the rites of this time of year on campus is the influx of thousands of high school fans and athletes for a month’s worth of Wisconsin prep postseason action. Beginning today with the WIAA Boys Swimming and Diving state competition at the Natatorium, the UW will host close to 150,000 people here for high school competitions.
Next weekend (Feb. 26-28), the WIAA individual state wrestling championships come to the Kohl Center. A week later, the team wrestling tournament invades the UW Field House. Finally, “March Madness” really kicks into high gear the weekend of March 19-21 when the boys basketball finals take place at the Kohl Center.
Incidentally, June is also a big month for us in regard to high school events, as well. We will host the boys individual and team tennis, boys golf and softball championships that month.
It’s great to have the excitement and enthusiasm of supporters and athletes from around the state here in Madison!
