UW vs. Green Bay Courtside Blog

Brian Lucas (Assistant Director of Athletic Communications)

4:54 p.m. - Snowy conditions (again) here in Madison. We are about 10 minutes before tip and the stands are just starting to fill up. Green Bay came in last night so they didn't encounter any travel problems. Tonight might be a different story for them.

No Jon Leuer tonight as he sprained his left ankle in practice yesterday.

5:09 p.m. - Hope you're watching on Big Ten Network because I just got some good face time. Marcus hit a couple threes in the second half vs. UWM then shot it pretty well in practice. He hits a quick trey here.

Joe Krabbenhoft is sporting all white kicks. First time I've seen them all season.

5:13 p.m. - First TV timeout, Badgers up 7-5. However, the stats say 14-10. For some reason the stat program is doubling everything.

5:18 p.m. - Stiemsma sporting the all-whites as well. Badgers haven't scored in a while. But Michael Flowers stops the run with an offensive rebound and a bucket while he's falling down. Free throw completes the three-point play.

5:21 p.m. - Another offensive rebound results in a lay-up for Gullikson and the free throw makes it consecutive three-point plays for UW. Flowers has seven points and two assists.

5:27 p.m. - GB goes zone and Butch hits a three from the top of the key to give UW the lead.

5:32 p.m. - TV timeout. UW up 18-15. After their little run, the Phoenix have cold. Badger Karaoke going on right now. Highly entertaining. Joanne, did some country song. Now some guy is singing a Johnny Cash song. Rob wins for his Johnny Cash. Hopefully we got some good pics of that we can post at halftime.

5:38 p.m. - Landry with two straight buckets down low, the Badgers extend the lead to nine. GB calls a timeout. I think the crowd is still getting over the karaoke performances.

5:40 p.m. - Two free throws by Barkley breaks the GB drought. But Landry answers again down low.

5:44 p.m. - ESPN's Scott Van Pelt, who dubbed Madison "America's Greatest College Sports Town" on the radio, is in attendance today. He is the keynote speaker at graduation tomorrow.  He was announced and shown up on the scoreboard. The students gave him the "we're not worthy" treatment.

5:47 p.m. - Hughes gets his own rebound on the missed free throw, dribbles along the baseline and finds J-Bo wide open for the three. J-Bo starts heading back on D as soon as it leaves his hand so you know it felt good.

5:55 p.m. - GB has the names on the back of their jerseys. However, at the end of the half, they put a guy in with no name. Just thought you needed to know that. Halftime score, UW 37-24.

5:57 p.m. - Just added some photos.

6:10 p.m. - Bucket boys at halftime. Pretty cool. We've got some pics of it. GB starts the half the way they started the game, hitting a three and causing a turnover.

6:14 p.m. - Gullikson scores two quick hoops and is taking advantage of Jon Leuer's absence. He's got seven points today.

6:18 p.m. - TV timeout. Krabbenhoft has scored three times inside off of offensive rebounds in the first four minutes of this half. He's got 10 points and six boards for the game.

6:25 p.m. - KG is all over it today. In the last couple minutes he made another bucket then a perfect entry pass to Stiemsma to set up a three-point play. Stiemsma just gets another easy one courtesy of Krabbenhoft. Some good ball movement today.

6:29 p.m. - Balanced scoring definitely on display today. Krabbenhoft with 10, Landry and Gullikson with nine, Stiemsma and Flowers with seven, Butch and Bohannon with five, Hughes with four. Looks like UW-Whitewater is up by nine with 1:33 to play in the Div III FB championship, eliciting loud cheers from the crowd.

6:34 p.m. - Hope you guys like the pictures. They are courtesy of Mitchell Pinta, athletic communications student assistant.

6:38 p.m. - J-Bo is certainly getting his shots up today. After not taking one against UWM, he's 1-for-6 on threes today. Very surprising because he couldn't miss yesterday in practice. It seems like every one today has gone around the rim and out. He's close to having a monster game.

6:45 p.m. - Berry fouls out for GB. According to the students, right now he's "standing, standing, standing ... left, right, left, right ..." I think you get the idea.

6:48 p.m. - GB puts on a little fullcourt pressure and the Badgers turn it over twice, quickly. Bo calls a TO to settle the troops. Also, Mitchell got a great action shot of the blogger in action.

6:52 p.m. - Krabbenhoft just got his double-double, grabbing his 10th rebound, on the offensive end, of course.

6:55 p.m. - Gonna have to make this my last post. Need to get ready for post-game. Right now, seven different Badgers have at least seven points. Also, GB is staying with the press and Uw isn't handling it great. Just committed its 15th turnover. Pop going to the line now, though. It's 66-50 with 2:27 left.

Sunday, 12:55 p.m. - Just a couple additions to check out. Due to the stats problems last night we had to correct the final box score so the one on the site now is the final, official box. Also, the post game news conference with Bo, Marcus, Joe and Kevin is now posted as are the game highlights, courtesy of the Big Ten Network. The links can be found in the game story.
