7:55 p.m. - The Badgers just took the floor. Two quick things before tip. Brent Musburger rented a Hummer H3 from the airport and was driving that around Madison today. I ran into him and EA this afternoon following Indiana's shootaround.
Eric Gordon's left wrist and hand is heavily taped. I just saw him hit his first shot though so not sure how much it will affect him.
8:07 p.m. - Brian Butch is trying to get the crowd pumped before tip-off. We get our first "Erin Andrews" chant of the night before tip. Steve Wellmer to throw it up. Indiana wins it and scores inside to start us off. Trevon answers with a drive to the bucket.
8:08 p.m. - Marcus starts on D.J., Michael on Gordon. Marcus scores down low. First big-game feel at the KC since probably Marquette.
8:10 p.m. - Marcus just took Mike White to the hole, layed it in and got fouled. He converts the free thow. Seven in a row for Bucky. D.J. muscles inside to stop the run.
8:14 p.m. - During that flurry, Mike had a great steal but Ellis from IU with an equally great play to get back and block the lay-up. Mike White traveled down on their end as the shot cloack was winding down so we have our first TV TO. UW leads 7-4 with 15:48 left.
8:17 p.m. - Brian misses one down low and Indiana scores but Hughes follows with a three. Hughes then drives the lane and misses but Krabbenhoft comes down with the rebound and converts the left-handed follow. Crowd erupts and Indiana calls TO.
8:19 p.m. - Trevon with a steal on M. White down low, who responds with his second foul. Badgers work the clock and Hughes gets hammered but no call. Stiemsma follows it up with a long-distance tip.
8:23 p.m. - After lots of contact both ways, Krabbenhoft is called for on off-the-ball grab for his first. That brings us to our second TV TO. Badgers lead 14-6 with 11:43 left. It's also raining cows from the ceiling here at the Kohl Center.
8:25 p.m. - Erin's got a case of the sniffles today, just thought everyone needed to know. J-Bo with a nice drive and bucket then Stiemsma is called for a late foul after a D.J. miss. White converts both to make it 16-8.
8:29 p.m. - Erin also has a stash of M&Ms over here by our seats (not sharing). Brian has gotten the ball inside three times, drawn contact with DJ, but no call. No buckets either. They're letting a lot of contact go on both ends.
8:31 p.m. - Brian drains a three then Indiana can't inbound the ball. Trevon with a heads up play. IU grabbed the ball out of bounds but no one was looking to get it. When a guy finally did run back, Trevon was all over him, causing the 5-second call. TV timeout with UW leading 21-12 with 7:38 left.
8:33 p.m. - IU has seven TO's. I won't tell you how many we have because I don't want to jinx it.
8:34 p.m. - Marcus with a great play to knock away an entry pass to DJ White, then he gets fouled by White going after the ball. Trevon with an aggressive drive to the hole and he gets fouled by Bassett. Pop makes both.
8:39 p.m. - Guess I jinxed it as we just committed our first TO. Good passing from Butch to Landry beats the zone. Gordon misses a three but DJ goes up big to get the rebound. He's fouled by Brian and makes one. IU gets the rebound though and DJ slams the follow.
8:43 p.m. - Indiana has gone zone and the Badgers are having a little trouble. Flowers misses a three and the rebound goes off Stiemsma for our last TV timeout of the half. UW leads 25-15 with 3:26 left.
8:46 p.m. - No ice fishing for Brent, Lav and Erin means Erin can break out her six-inch heeled boots that go up to her knee. Not exactly fishing attire. Stemler knocks down a second-chance three. UW then misses another trey. Gordon fouled on the other end. Up and down action results in Ellis going over Flowers' back. Flowers hits both.
8:48 p.m. - Trevon fouled crossing halfcourt by Gordon. He makes one. Gordon powers his way inside for a bucket.
8:51 p.m. - Marcus might have bought one there, getting DJ White on a charge, his second foul. Kelvin is not a fan of the call. On the last play of the half, JBo gets an open look at a three but he misses. Michael flies in from the opposite side and somehow tips the ball in. At the half, UW leads 30-20.
9:05 p.m. - Couple halftime stats. Pop leads all scorers with 10. DJ White has nine and eight boards. Jamarcus Ellis has nine boards for IU, which is outrebounding the Badgers 23-16. IU has 11 turnovers compared to just three for UW. The Badgers are shooting 35.5 percent from the field while IU is at 30. 8 percent.
9:08 p.m. - We get another "Erin Andrews" chant to start the half. I think she's pretty popular in these parts. Indiana starts in man-to-man and Krabbenhoft gets fouled going to the bucket. Joe makes one, Butch gets the rebound but can't convert.
9:15 p.m. - Butch's three goes in and out, then back in. Crowd erupts! DJ White converts down low though. Landry then returns the favor.
In the immortal words of Dick Enberg, "Oh My!" Krabbenhoft pulls down an offensive board, passes to a slashing Hughews, who goes round the back to Flowers who reverses it for two. Don't worry, you'll see it on SportsCenter, coming up after the game (ed. note: it was No. 4 on the top plays). IU with a timeout. Badgers lead 40-24 with 15:54 left.
9:18 p.m. - The crowd got REALLY loud after Pop dropped that dime to Mike. And all the Badgers on the floor got pumped. Lots of emotion. Bob Harlan of the Packers was just introduced to the crowd. Big applause! DJ White was fouled coming out of Indiana's TO, bringing us to the media TO.
9:20 p.m. - Erin's feverishly going over her notes. DJ hits both. He's got 15. Krabbenhoft just set a monster pick on whoever was guarding Pop. Then he finds Mike wide open down low for a layup.
9:25 p.m. - Stiemsma just tomahawked one then comes down the other end and tips in Trevon's miss and gets fouled. He misses but Badgers lead by 20.
9:27 p.m. - Michael has been guarding Gordon virtually the entire game and he just picked up his first foul.
9:30 p.m. - Gordon just stopped and popped his first three. Hughes then loses the ball out of bounds. Looks like Bo wanted a foul called. Brings us to the second media TO. UW leads 46-31 with 11:40 left.
9:33 p.m. - Joe just crushed Stemler. Would have been a good WWE move as he flew through the air and landed on top of him. Eric Gordon is trying to single-handedly bring IU back. They've cut the lead to 10 and Bo calls TO. Gordon has 10 points this half.
9:37 p.m. - Shot clock winding down and Trevon puts up a short jumper that misses. Marcus cleans it up and sticks it back, losing the goggles along the way. Bassett answers for IU. Big scramble for the ball ends up with DJ getting a bucket and fouled. He makes the free throw and cuts the lead to seven.
9:39 p.m. - At the other end DeAndre Thomnas picks up a foul, bringing us to the TV timeout. UW leads 48-41 with 7:53 left.
9:41 p.m. - Marcus has 11 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double.
9:45 p.m. - Thomas picks up another one and UW is in the bonus. Brian misses the front end. DJ White scores down low and it's a five-point game. Trevon misses as the shot clock goes off but Michael fights for the rebound. JBo ends up being guarded by DJ and he gets fouled. JBo hits both to stop the bleeding.
9:47 p.m. - The crowd is pretty into this one. Joe grabs a rebound and is fouled. Misses the front end.
9:49 p.m. - Gordon misses a LONG three. Joe gets the board. Joe then tracks down a block by White and feeds Marcus, who gets fouled. He makes one.
9:52 p.m. - JBo misses a three but Joe flies in with a tip to get the crowd pumped. He then rips the ball away from DJ on the other end. His shot going to the basket is blocked out of bounds so it will be UW ball after the TV timout. Badgers lead 53-45 with 3:10 to go.
9:53 p.m. - UW medical personnel, including Henry Perez-Guerra, appear to be putting a band-aid above Pop's left eye. Didn't really see anything on the court and he didn't miss any time. Good thing. I think we're going to need him down the stretch.
9:55 p.m. - Pop misses as the shot clock is running down but Joe comes up with another HUGE rebound. Pop gets fouled and makes both. 10-point lead.
9:58 p.m. - Dubious call on Greg as DJ is posting up. He makes both and he's got 22. Joe just CRUSHED Eric Gordon with a pick that allowed Pop to drive and dish to Marcus for a dunk. Another one you'll probably see on SportsCenter.
10:00 p.m. - JBo misses a three as the shot clock is going down but Joe tips it back to JBo. IU has to foul Pop. He makes both. Gordon is back for IU. IU calls timeout. Badgers lead 59-47 with 1:21 left. Students with a "Hoosier Daddy" chant.
10:02 p.m. - IU with a couple misses before Gordon reminds everyone its not over with a nasty put-back dunk. IU with a TO. 59-49 with 1:04 left.
10:03 p.m. - Bassett fouls Pop. He hits both.
10:05 p.m. - Gordon misses a three and IU fouls Joe with 37.4 left. He makes one. Looks like its over. Badgers win 62-49.
9:45 a.m. (Friday) – Very fun game last night. Great crowd, best of the season so far. Had the big-game feel all night long.
Great defensive effort by our guys, limiting the highest scoring team in the conference to just 49 points. The Hoosiers’ lowest output of the season heading into last night was 62. Michael guarded Eric Gordon for most of the night, limiting his touches and holding him to 16 points. Ten of those came during IU’s run in the second half. Everyone knew about Gordon’s wrist injury but Michael played 36 minutes while battling a high fever and flu-like symptoms.
Juniors Marcus Landry and Joe Krabbenhoft came up with big performances. Landry had to deal with D.J. White down low for most of the game but was able to record the first double-double of his career with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Krabbenhoft had 12 boards, including six on the offensive end, and just seemed to come up with the ball every time the Badgers needed it. In the last 5:30 of the game he came up with seven boards and one steal.
(Shout-out alert: EA just texted me to check out SI.com’s Extra Mustard. She hooked us up big time as they linked to the blog. Now we just have to get that picture of her and her boots posted on the site.)
Quick turnaround now with practice here today then a bus trip to Minneapolis for practice tomorrow night and the game Sunday afternoon.
I posted some pics from last night, including one I’m sure Joe will want to print off and save (he’s got to be the only guy in history to attempt three shots in a game and still get to talk to Erin Andrews afterwards.
